KIG Cathodic Protection Transformer Rectifiers (CP TR) Design and Test References
1 Design Standards (Applicable to CP TRU / Potentiostat)
These standards govern system design, functional performance, safety, and cathodic
protection requirements.
Cathodic Protection & Application Standards
- ISO 15589-1
Petroleum and natural gas industries – Cathodic protection of pipeline
transportation systems – On-land pipelines
- EN 12954
Cathodic protection of buried or immersed metallic structures – General
principles and application
- AMPP SP0169 (formerly
NACE SP0169)
Control of external corrosion on underground or submerged metallic piping
systems
- SIST EN 16222:2014 Cathodic Protection of
Ship Hulls
(Mentions that the
transformer rectifier should have appropriate instrumentation (DC
voltmeter, ammeter), control and protection devices, and the ability to
deliver the required CP output with controlled ripple.)
Power Electronics & System
Safety
- IEC 62477-1
Safety requirements for power electronic converter systems and equipment
- IEC 60146-1-1
Semiconductor converters – General requirements and line-commutated
converters
Transformer Component
- IEC 60076-1
Power transformers – General
- IEC 60076-2
Power transformers – Temperature rise
- IEC 60076-5
Power transformers – Ability to withstand short circuit
These clauses are referenced only for transformer design verification,
such as insulation class, temperature rise limits, and short-circuit withstand
capability. They do not define the overall TRU design or performance.
2 Testing Standards
(Applicable to Assembled CP TRU)
These standards are used to verify the complete TRU unit, including
transformer, rectifier, control system, and enclosure, under operating and
environmental conditions.
Environmental &
Reliability Tests
- IEC 60068-2-1
Environmental testing – Test A: Cold
- IEC 60068-2-2
Environmental testing – Test B: Dry heat
- IEC 60068-2-78
Environmental testing – Damp heat, steady state
EMC & Electrical Protection
- IEC 61000-4-4
EMC – Electrical fast transient / burst immunity
- IEC 61000-4-5
EMC – Surge immunity test
- IEC 62305
Protection against lightning
Packaging & Transport
- ISO 780
Packaging – Pictorial marking for handling of goods
2.3 Clarification on Applicability
- The CP TRU (Potentiostat)
is a dedicated DC power conversion and control system, not a standalone
power transformer.
- IEC 60076 is partially
applicable and referenced only for the internal transformer component.
- Overall TRU performance
is governed by:
- DC output stability
(constant current / constant potential)
- Control accuracy
- Ripple factor
- Protection functions
- Environmental
reliability
- Therefore, compliance is
demonstrated through specific test items, not by applying IEC 60076 as a
single governing standard.
This approach is consistent with international CP engineering practice and
with equipment previously supplied by EU manufacturers using factory-defined
TRU standards.
