Installation & Handling of Marine Ag/AgCl Reference Electrode Installation Guidelines
Proper installation is essential to ensure accurate potential measurement
and long-term performance of the Ag/AgCl reference electrode.
- Install the electrode in direct
contact with seawater, close to the structure being monitored.
- Position the electrode so
that it represents the true local potential of the structure.
- Secure the electrode
using appropriate clamps, brackets, or mounting hardware to prevent
movement.
- Ensure the sensing
surface remains exposed to seawater and is not blocked by coatings or
debris.
Cable & Connection Requirements
- Protect lead cables from
mechanical damage, abrasion, and sharp edges.
- Route cables securely to
avoid tension, bending, or chafing.
- For permanent
installations, all cable joints and terminations must be waterproofed
to prevent seawater ingress and signal instability.
Maintenance & Inspection
- Ag/AgCl reference
electrodes generally require minimal maintenance.
- Periodically inspect
cable insulation and connection integrity, especially in harsh offshore
environments.
- Monitor potential
readings; replace the electrode if abnormal drift or physical damage is
detected.
- Portable electrodes
should be stored in a moist environment when not in use to maintain
electrode stability (if applicable).
Safety & Compliance
- Installation should be
carried out by qualified personnel familiar with cathodic protection
systems.
- Ensure cable routing does
not create safety hazards on decks or subsea structures.
- Follow applicable marine
electrical safety standards and cathodic protection guidelines.
- Confirm depth and
pressure ratings for deep-water or high-pressure installations.
Ordering & Customization
When ordering a Marine Ag/AgCl Reference Electrode, please specify:
- Required cable length
- Operating temperature
range
- Installation environment
(subsea, splash zone, permanently submerged)
- Any certification or
project-specific requirements
Custom configurations are available to meet specific project and
installation needs.
